Walks

Discover the Lake District like never before with delightful walks with far reaching views of the lake and surrounding fells, along the public footpaths and stopping off at some of the beauty spots along the way. There is a variety of both lake and fell walks as well as the more challenging renowned Scafell Pike the highest mountain in England.
Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic books is about a 30 minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far reaching views of the lake and surround fells.

Places to Visit / Things To Do

A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake cruises in Bowness, to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Haverthwaite railway are situated.
Brockhole is located between Windermere and Ambleside a perfect place for all the family. They offer a variety of outdoor (but covered) activities, an adventure playground, water sports, boat hire and of course the fantastic high wire Treetop Trek and nets experience.
Grizedale forest in the heart of the Lake District World Heritage Site had breathtaking views, forest trails and stunning artwork. Whether you hire or take your own bike, go on foot or by horse back there is plenty to see throughout the forest. If you fancy a challenge test your nerve on the Go Ape courses.

Beatrix Potter

Head over on the ferry by car, on foot or bike to Far Sawrey where you can visit the life and works of Beatrix Potter which can be seen at the National Trust owned Hill Top. It is a picturesque 45 minute walk via public footpaths. Next door to Hill Top you will find a true icon dating back to the 17th century The Tower Bank Arms which even featured in the illustrations of the Tale of Jemima Puddleduck, serving local brewed ales and some of the best pub food in the area.Booking in advance is advised.

The Town

The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere provide a range of nearby attractions, amenities shops and restaurants to suit all tastes.
In the summer, Bowness hosts Glebe Market every Sunday offering a wide range of local produce from Cumbria and The Lake District.
